Level 3 BTEC – Extended Diploma in Sport (CITC Football Pathway)
Working in partnership with Manchester City Football Clubâ€™s Foundation; City in the Community are offering a Level 3 BTEC (equivalent to 3 A-levels) in sport and football.
What Will I Study?
The course does contain a generous amount of sports participation alongside the football element of the programme. Practical elements occur within many units such as Sports Coaching, Fitness Testing and Fitness Training and Programming. The practical elements of the course will be supported by class tasks, logbooks and both written and practical assessments to demonstrate your knowledge of the unit. These units include:
- Unit 1: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
- Unit 2: The Physiology of Fitness
- Unit 5: Sports Coaching
- Unit 7: Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
- Unit 8: Practical Team Sports
- Unit 13: Leadership in Sport
Students will play in the City in the Community BTEC league as well as national cup competitions.
You will also undertake various qualifications relevant to the course.
There are volunteering opportunities available to you, including CITC events, disability sports and school events.
Learner work is assessed and marked internally using a broad range of assessment methods. Marked work audits will be completed on a regular basis throughout the duration of the course to ensure consistently high levels of Quality Assurance. Each individual unit is graded Pass (P), Merit (M) or Distinction (D).
To study this course, you will need 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English and Maths. You will need a keen interest in sport and football, and we would prefer you to have a GCSE in PE.

This course particularly suits those wanting to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector as coaches, instructors and leaders and who also have a real passion for football. It is also ideal for those wishing to progress to higher education to study a sport-related degree such as coaching, sports development and sports science.
